Piedmont Council Adjusts Parade Route, Advances Court Diversion Plan

Piedmont City Council

Piedmont, AL – The Piedmont City Council worked through a busy agenda Tuesday night, including action on the city’s holiday schedule and a route change for this week’s Christmas parade.

The Council held the first reading of Ordinance 644, which would create a pre-trial diversion program for the Municipal Court. A vote is expected at the next meeting. Members also approved the city’s 2025 holiday calendar and signed off on annual longevity incentive pay for employees — $50 in base pay plus $10 for each year of service.

Mayor Kevin Farmer reported that the city resolved an insurance overpayment involving the school system by adjusting this year’s payment to balance the accounts.

Farmer also announced that Thursday’s Christmas parade will follow a slightly different route due to a large wrestling event at the school. The lineup will shift to Front Street and the Baptist Church parking lot before continuing straight down Ladiga.

Before going into executive session, the mayor thanked the community for its support following the recent loss of his brother. After reconvening, the council authorized him to begin negotiations with a prospective new city clerk, with hopes of having the position filled by early January.

The meeting adjourned at 6:11 pm.
