Piedmont, AL – A tragic single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night claimed the life of a Piedmont resident. Cathy L. Stants, 53, was fatally injured when the 2002 GMC Envoy she was driving veered off the roadway, struck an embankment, and collided with multiple trees.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on U.S. 278 near the 151-mile marker, about four miles west of Piedmont in Calhoun County. Authorities reported that Stants was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details are currently available.
