Phenix City, AL – Weaver’s girls’ wrestling team sweeps duals with Central-Phenix City, Carrollton. Jacksonville, White Plains, Munford and JCA victorious in girls’ basketball. Jacksonville, Saks girls roll.
Weaver’s girls won two wrestling duals on Tuesday, beating Alabama state runner up Central-Phenix City 42-30 and Georgia top-ranked Carrollton 37-36 on a tiebreaker.
Weaver’s Nya Johannson, Kallie Mayfield, Lena Johannson, Baleigh Brown and Ali Anderson went 2-0 on the day. Shyanne Scott, Ariel Sargent and Mariah Johannson went 1-1.
Boys’ basketball
JACKSONVILLE 79, WEAVER 64: Aaron Nixon hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points, including 12 points in the third quarter, and Jacksonville’s boys won at Weaver.
Nixon’s big third quarter was part of a 33-point quarter for the Golden Eagles. Calvan Hill scored seven of his 16 points in the third quarter.
Mason Scoggins added nine points.
Weaver’s KeShawn Allen scored a game-high 24 points. Kaden Gooden added 19 points, and Harper Williams added 11 points.
WHITE PLAINS 68, SAKS 26: Bryson Cheatwood hit two 3-pointers on the way to 16 points, and White Plains upped to 1-1.
Ethan Turner hit four threes en route to 14 points, and Harper Hall hit three threes while scoring 13 points. The Wildcats hit 11 threes overall.
Lajuan Curry paced Saks with seven points.
MUNFORD 62, WOODLAND 32: B.J. Anderson led three Munford players in double figures with 12 points, and the Lions improved to 2-0.
Devin Elder and Lathan Stephens added 10 points apiece.
Parker Beam and Eli Wiggins led Woodland with eight points apiece.
JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 72, GSD 21: Jesse Gannaway poured in 32 points as the Thunder rolled past Georgia School for the Deaf.
Gannaway also had six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Noah Lee contributed 18 points, 18 rebounds, three steals and seven assists, and Caleb Stallings added eight points and four rebounds.
Girls’ basketball
JACKSONVILLE 66, WEAVER 34: Neveah Nicholson hit six of 11 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 20 points, and Jacksonville’s girls rolled to victory.
Ontarriah Braxton added 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Jayci Taylor had 10 points and tied Mya Swain’s team-high six rebounds. Swain scored seven points.
SAKS 55, WHITE PLAINS 25: Alonna Crews scored 17 points as Saks won at White Plains. She scored 15 points in the first half.
Madison Turner added 12 points.
Abbie Dickeson and Callie Sprayberry led White Plains with six points apiece. Sprayberry hit two 3-pointers.
