He holds undergraduate degrees in accounting and finance, a master’s and educational specialist degree in counseling and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. The Probate Judge office is more than an election year goal for Garlick, it has been his deep desire for the better part of 15 years.

As a financial executive, Garlick understands the financial responsibility of handling the public’s money. His knowledge of accounting will allow him to fully understand the reports filed by executors, administrators, and conservators, and be able to assess the skills required to perform those duties.

Since 2002 Garlick has worked with the Sheriff and the Probate Judge to coordinate and secure our elections. As your probate judge and chief election officer he will work within the law and with the Secretary of State, Sheriff, and Circuit Court Clerk to keep our elections secure and to keep voting easy and cheating hard.

Garlick was the first Mental Health Officer for Calhoun County and helped draft the legislation that created the Mental Health Advisory Board. He has over a dozen years of experience participating in commitment hearings and issuing emergency mental health hold orders. He knows all too well the crisis of mental illness and how to protect the rights of those citizens.

As a mental health professional and Probate Judge he will continue to advocate for improved treatment and better access to care for those with mental illness. As a licensed counselor, during the commitment hearings, he will be able to fully understand the diagnosis and the appropriateness of the treatment plan offered by the psychiatrist and will hold those responsible for that treatment accountable.

As a retired law enforcement officer, Garlick understands the role of the probate judge as an officer of the peace and, will stand side by side with his fellow officers and deputies to protect our citizens rights and to continue to honor the oath he took over twenty years ago to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the great State of Alabama.

Jon Garlick’s candidacy represents a commitment to compassionate leadership and a vision for a more equitable and responsive probate court system in Calhoun County.
