PUBLIC NOTICE
On behalf of Anniston Army Depot (ANAD), Cherokee Nation Environmental Solutions (CNES), and Conti Federal Services (CFS), have been contracted to develop and provide an updated ANAD Community Involvement Plan (CIP) to help keep the local community informed and provide the public a voice.
We are requesting public engagement in the development of the ANAD CIP as required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) of 1980 amended by the Superfund and Reauthorization Act (SARA) of 1986, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) of 1976.
Effective communication, and timely exchange of information are essential for maintaining community understanding and support for ANAD environmental cleanup activities, health and ecological plans. The purpose of the CIP is to establish effective methods for informing the community of installation cleanup program actions, solicit stakeholder and community input on concerns regarding current and future activities and maintain a strategy that supports proactive, two-way communication between the Army and the local community.

Anniston Army Depot has 15,000 acres of woodland, 3.5 million square feet of maintenance and production buildings, 419,029 square feet of administrative buildings, and 6.8 million square feet of storage buildings and has room to grow. Anniston Army Depot is in Anniston, Alabama. The arsenal began in 1941 as a storage depot and is a state-of-the-market maintenance facility known for heavy combat vehicles, small arms weaponry, and locomotive expertise. Anniston Army Depot’s mission is the designated Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for tracked and wheeled ground combat vehicles, towed and self-propelled artillery, assault bridging systems, individual and crew served small caliber weapons and locomotives, rail equipment and non-tactical generators. Environmental concerns are identified as areas such as chemicals of concern that impact the soil and groundwater.
