“We were so excited by today’s event – the weather probably kept some folks home, but it was a great crowd that really enjoyed the day. This is becoming a really fun event each year, and a great way to close out World Autism Awareness Month for the Rainbow Omega neighborhood.”

“The Oxford Police Department was honored to participate in this year’s Tackle the Hills event at Rainbow Omega. Our officers value opportunities to engage with the community, and we especially enjoy spending time with the residents of Rainbow Omega.

The department also continues to promote its Blue Envelope Program, an initiative designed to enhance communication during traffic stops for individuals with special needs, including those with autism, dementia, or anxiety. The blue envelope provides a secure place to store important documents such as a driver’s license, insurance information, and vehicle registration. It also includes helpful instructions for both the driver and the responding officer to facilitate a clear and safe interaction.

Rainbow Omega continues to provide residential and vocational services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with events like “Tackle the Hills” serving as both a fundraiser and a way to strengthen connections between participants and the broader community.

Organizers confirmed that the event will return next year, scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2027.

In addition to the annual event, Rainbow Omega shared several upcoming initiatives and opportunities for community involvement. The organization is monitoring the progress of blueberries grown on its Blueberry Hill property, with expectations for a mid-June harvest. Details for the annual Berry Picking Day will be announced at a later date.

An art show featuring works created by participants in Rainbow Omega’s art program is scheduled for August 8, offering the public an opportunity to view and support creative efforts within the community.

Later in the month, Rainbow Omega will host its Annual Fundraising Dinner on Thursday, August 27, at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. The event will feature guest speakers AJ McCarron, head coach of the Birmingham Stallions and former University of Alabama quarterback, and Katherine McCarron. The couple is expected to speak on leadership and community involvement, as well as their personal connection to autism awareness, having shared that their youngest son has Level 1 Autism.
