On Thursday morning at the Jacksonville High School there was a report that a student may have brought a handgun to the school. Jacksonville Police Department was immediately notified and the student was identified. The student was checked by the School Resource Officer (SRO) but was not in possession of a weapon at that time.
The student reportedly displayed the firearm to other students during one of the classes and a student reported the incident to the school.
School officials issued a soft lock down keeping the students in classrooms as the police introduced K-9 units to check the school. The K-9’s are trained to identify odors that could identify a firearm that has been hidden. Upon completion of the initial search no weapon has been located but the student remains secured with officials.
The investigation is still ongoing but the lock-down has been lifted.
We will report more as details become available.
