Hess Grand Opening

Anniston, AL – On Saturday, April 13th, at 9:00 am, members of the McClellan Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of America (BCHA) gathered for a momentous occasion—the ribbon cutting ceremony for Hess Grocery Company at Camp McClellan Horse Trails. This exciting event marked the official opening of a new community hub at the Camp McClellan Horse Trails on Fort McClellan.

The McClellan Chapter of BCHA, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, oversees the maintenance of the Camp McClellan Horse Trails, which provide an outdoor haven for horse enthusiasts. The campground boasts 50 campsites equipped with 30 AMP electric service and water, along with 15 primitive campsites. With a mix of pull-through and back-in options, the sites offer a comfortable and scenic retreat for visitors.

J.D. Hess, the driving force behind Hess Grocery Company, shared his inspiration for the establishment with the Calhoun Journal. He expressed a desire to create a space reminiscent of the “old store,” serving as a gathering place for the community. Drawing on nostalgic elements, Hess aimed to provide visitors with a sense of simplicity and camaraderie. The store features a collection of photographs, evoking memories of a bygone era, and plans for a deck where patrons can enjoy coffee while admiring the serene surroundings and passing horses.

Currently, Hess Grocery Company offers basic camping supplies, simple food options, and beverages, including a dedicated coffee area. The store serves as a convenient stop for visitors to stock up on essentials and enjoy a moment of respite amidst the natural beauty of Camp McClellan Horse Trails.

The ribbon cutting ceremony not only celebrated the grand opening of Hess Grocery Company but also highlighted the collaborative efforts of the McClellan Chapter of BCHA in enhancing the recreational opportunities available to the community. As visitors explore the campground and enjoy the company of fellow outdoor enthusiasts, Hess Grocery Company stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of community and the timeless appeal of simpler times.
