WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) praised the House Armed Services Committee’s approval of the Chairman’s Mark of H.R. 8800, the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (FY27 NDAA), following a committee vote on the legislation.
According to Rogers, the measure aims to strengthen national defense capabilities through investments in military readiness, emerging technologies, and the defense industrial base. The bill authorizes $1.15 trillion in discretionary funding and seeks to support military modernization and deterrence efforts.
“The world is becoming more dangerous and it has never been more important to have a strong, ready, and capable fighting force to defend our nation,” Rogers said in a statement. “The FY27 NDAA strengthens our ability to defend ourselves and deter our adversaries by revitalizing our defense industrial base, investing in innovative technologies, and restocking the Arsenal of Freedom.”
Rogers also said the funding level aligns with President Donald Trump’s stated goal of increasing defense spending to 4.5% of the nation’s gross domestic product and reaching a total investment level of $1.5 trillion in fiscal year 2027.
“The FY27 NDAA reflects months of oversight, hearings, member engagement, and collaboration to ensure the U.S. military remains the most capable and lethal fighting force in the world,” Rogers said. “I appreciate the bipartisan effort that went into this bill, and I look forward to advancing this legislation so we can give our warfighters the resources they need to strengthen our deterrence and defend our country.”
The House Armed Services Committee reported the bill favorably by a vote of 44-12. The legislation now advances to the next stage of the congressional process for consideration by the full House.
