Runners Gear Up for Dirty Soles Trail Race at Fort McClellan

ANNISTON, AL — Trail runners and endurance enthusiasts will take on the rugged terrain of the Fort McClellan Mountain Bike Trail this Saturday, March 1, as Dirty Soles Trail Races hosts a high-energy endurance challenge. Participants can choose between a four-hour or eight-hour race, testing their stamina on a scenic 4.1-mile single-track loop with an elevation gain of approximately 315 feet per lap.

The event, which kicks off at 7 a.m., allows runners to complete as many or as few loops as they wish within their selected timeframe. The course is described as runnable, with some rocky sections but minimal technical difficulty.

Racers will start and finish at the McClellan Bike Trailhead, located at 460 Brigadier D H Stem, Anniston, AL 36205. A full aid station at the start/finish area will offer snacks, drinks, and even grilled cheese—including a vegan option for plant-based athletes. Participants can also set up their own aid stations near their vehicles or in the amphitheater.

Application

For those seeking an extra challenge, runners who complete four loops (25K) in four hours or eight loops (50K) in eight hours will receive a special award. The top male and female competitors in each division who achieve the longest distances will also earn recognition. Additionally, anyone who sets a new course record will receive a free entry to next year’s race.

A portion of the event’s registration fees will be donated to the McClellan Development Authority (MDA) in support of local trail maintenance and preservation efforts. Fort McClellan, once a major U.S. Army training facility during World War II, now offers a scenic yet challenging course for outdoor athletes.

Runners can still sign up for the race at UltraSignup. Packet pickup will be available only on race day from 6 a.m. to 6:50 a.m. There will be no refunds, deferrals, or entry transfers.

For those looking for an endurance test filled with camaraderie, scenic trails, and a touch of history, the Dirty Soles Trail Race promises an unforgettable experience.
