Ruth Cook to Present Program on Alabama Town Names at Anniston Library

Anniston, AL – The Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County will host author Ruth Cook for a special presentation exploring the history and meanings behind some of Alabama’s most unusual town names.

The event, titled “Ruth Cook Presents: Toponymics – Tales of Alabama Town Names,” is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. at the library, located at Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County.

According to the event description, Cook will guide attendees through a historical and linguistic journey focused on distinctive Alabama community names including places such as Graball, Bug Tussle, Eclectic, Guin, and Gu-Win.

The program is open to the public, and organizers note that anyone on or off Facebook may attend. Participants can also earn three rewards through the program.

The presentation will focus on the origins and stories connected to Alabama place names, offering insight into the state’s local history and regional culture.
