Montgomery, AL – Alabama restaurants are now in the spotlight as Sweet Grown Alabama launches a statewide competition to find Bama’s Best Surf & Turf. The contest invites the public to nominate their favorite seafood and land-based protein dishes from July 7–21 on the Sweet Grown Alabama Facebook page.

Eligible entries must feature a combination of seafood and another protein, such as steak or chicken. The contest is open to both traditional and creative culinary pairings.

“Bama’s Best Surf & Turf celebrates our state’s rare position as a producer of both exceptional seafood and protein raised by hard-working farmers,” said Ellie Watson, Director of Sweet Grown Alabama. “Alabama is also home to talented chefs — from those who create elaborate dishes at high-end eateries to cooks serving simple dinners at down-home restaurants.”

To participate, Facebook users must comment on the official Bama’s Best Surf & Turf post with the name of the restaurant, its location, and the specific dish. The restaurants with the most nominations will advance to the “Edible Eight” and face off in bracket-style voting from July 28–31.

The top four, known as the “Flavorful Four,” will then welcome a panel of judges in August for a final round of taste-testing. The winning restaurant will receive a cash prize, a plaque, bragging rights, and media features on Simply Southern TV and in Neighbors magazine, published by the Alabama Farmers Federation.

The competition is sponsored by Sweet Grown Alabama, a program that promotes locally grown products and supports farmers and commercial fishermen across the state. More information about local products can be found at SweetGrownAlabama.org.
