Shoes, Hooves, and Wheels Return to the McClellan Trails in the Second Annual Treadhoofalon on November 11, 2023

Anniston, AL – As November approaches, a unique and thrilling event is set to take place in Anniston, Alabama, where different trail user groups come together to celebrate their shared love for the great outdoors. The Second Annual Treadhoofalon Triathlon is all set to captivate participants and spectators on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 8 a.m. The Camp McClellan Horse Trails will be the epicenter of this exhilarating event, which is a collaborative effort by the Back Country Horseman of America McClellan Chapter, the Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association, and the Anniston Runners Club.

The Treadhoofalon is no ordinary triathlon; it’s a one-of-a-kind race that combines equestrian skills, mountain biking, and trail running. Participants will embark on an exciting journey that includes approximately four miles of horseback riding, followed by an eight-mile mountain biking section and finally a four-mile trail running leg. This event promises a challenge that tests the versatility and endurance of each participant.

This year’s Treadhoofalon introduces individual awards, building on the success of the inaugural event in 2022, and offering participants even more to strive for. The fastest team, the slowest team, the top three male and female bikers and runners, and the top three gaited and non-gaited horses will all be recognized with well-deserved awards at the end of the ceremony.

Lain and Julie Hawk, the founders of the Treadhoofalon, express their excitement and commitment to building bridges between different trail user groups. They are also looking forward to making improvements such as adding individual awards this year. Their vision for the event extends beyond competition, with a goal of giving back to all trail users.

Participants can register as a team, with one competitor for each discipline, or as individuals who can then select teammates from within the registration system at www.treadhoofalon.com. The race will commence with the horseback riding leg at 8 a.m., followed by mountain biking and trail running. The timing of each section depends on how quickly each teammate completes their part.

The Treadhoofalon not only offers an exceptional athletic challenge but also promotes camaraderie among different athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. Hayley Long, Anniston Runners Club Treasurer, who participated in the inaugural event, described it as a “unique and pleasurable experience” to work as a team with athletes from diverse disciplines. She commended the well-organized event, the support of volunteers, and the collaboration among the various sports clubs.

Chad Jones, Chairman of the Back Country Horseman of America McClellan Chapter, emphasized the success of last year’s event, highlighting the unity that blossomed among participants from different trail groups. The atmosphere of mutual support, with all participants cheering each other on, was truly refreshing. He hopes to see the same spirit this year and in the years to come, with increasing participation from future generations to benefit outdoor recreation.

Early bird registration for the Treadhoofalon is currently open at $55 per person or $120 for a group of three, which includes a post-race brunch and finisher medals. Non-competing attendees can purchase a $10 meal ticket at the Camp McClellan pavilion on the event day. Additionally, a limited number of extra Treadhoofalon t-shirts will be available for purchase on the day of the event. The event is free for spectators, and everyone in the community is encouraged to attend and cheer on the competitors.

Julie Moss, Director of the McClellan Development Authority, expressed her excitement for the Second Annual Treadhoofalon and the opportunity to see various groups working together in harmony. She emphasized the uniqueness of the event and the infectious camaraderie it fosters. The trails at McClellan will serve as a backdrop for this outstanding event that is open to all and promises a memorable day for participants and spectators alike.

Don’t miss the Second Annual Treadhoofalon Triathlon, a celebration of outdoor recreation and unity, on November 11th at the Camp McClellan Horse Trails. This event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved, bringing together diverse outdoor enthusiasts and fostering a sense of camaraderie that transcends boundaries.
