Sen. Katie Britt Joins Bipartisan Effort to Recognize National FFA Week

U.S. Senator Katie Britt Joins Colleagues in Celebrating FFA’s Nationwide Impact

Washington D.C. – In a bipartisan move, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has teamed up with Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.) along with 53 colleagues to introduce a Senate resolution designating February 17-24, 2024, as National FFA Week. The resolution unanimously passed the Senate and aims to underscore the pivotal role played by the National FFA Organization in shaping the leaders of tomorrow by offering educational and career opportunities to students across the nation.

This initiative also serves to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the “Give the Gift of Blue” program. Launched a decade ago, the program has generously provided over 17,000 iconic FFA blue jackets to members facing financial constraints.

Senator Britt expressed her pride in advocating for Alabama’s farmers, emphasizing the significance of FFA in empowering young individuals to become future leaders in agriculture and their local communities. She stressed the critical connection between food security and national security and pledged ongoing support for agricultural education and research initiatives that fortify the future of Alabama and the United States.

National FFA Advisor Dr. Travis Park echoed the sentiment, describing National FFA Week as a meaningful celebration for members across the country. He highlighted FFA’s inclusive and vital role in developing leaders and meeting the increasing demands of the talent pipeline. Dr. Park emphasized that the week provides an opportunity for FFA chapters and members to express gratitude to their supporters, including local alumni, agriculture teachers, and businesses.

The resolution garnered broad support from a diverse group of senators, including John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and many others from both sides of the aisle. The extensive list of cosponsors reflects the bipartisan recognition of the importance of FFA in shaping the future of American agriculture.

U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (R-KS-01) has introduced a companion resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives, further emphasizing the widespread support for acknowledging the National FFA Week. As the resolution moves forward, it highlights a rare instance of bipartisan unity in recognizing the valuable contributions of the National FFA Organization and its impact on the next generation of agricultural leaders.
