Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Senate has confirmed Kristi Noem as the new Secretary of Homeland Security, a position critical to overseeing the nation’s border security and immigration policies.
U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), chair of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed her support for Secretary Noem’s confirmation in a statement following the vote.
“After four years of Biden-Harris open borders policies fueling an unprecedented humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border, it’s clear the American people deserve a Secretary of Homeland Security who is actually committed to securing our homeland,” Senator Britt stated. She added that she believes Noem will “end the abuse of our immigration laws” and work to strengthen border security and immigration enforcement under the leadership of President Trump and Tom Homan.
Britt also emphasized her commitment to collaborating with Secretary Noem to address what she described as “years of failed immigration enforcement” and to refocus the Department of Homeland Security on its core mission of protecting the nation.
As the new head of DHS, Noem will oversee efforts to address immigration, border security, cybersecurity, and emergency management. Her confirmation follows heightened national debate over immigration policies and border management.
Noem’s leadership is expected to play a key role in shaping U.S. homeland security strategies in the coming years.
