Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has voted to advance the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This bill includes over $80 million in targeted funding aimed at modernizing and upgrading critical transportation infrastructure across Alabama. Notably, Senator Britt personally secured $50 million of this funding.
“Since taking office, I’ve promised to work tirelessly on the Appropriations Committee to bring Alabamians’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars back home. This appropriations bill fulfills that promise once again, delivering major wins for needed transportation infrastructure improvements across Alabama – from roads and bridges in rural communities, to regional airports, to inland port infrastructure – that invest strategically and responsibly in our state and our children’s futures. I was proud to secure priorities that empower economic development, improve safety, and grow opportunity in our local communities,” said Senator Britt.
Senator Britt secured $30.1 million to support local road and bridge improvement projects across Alabama. This includes $20 million in funding for the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to improve and widen SR-167 from Pike County to Coffee County, building on $20 million in funding for SR-167 that Senator Britt secured in FY24. In North Alabama, Senator Britt secured $5.08 million for an inland intermodal container transfer facility (ICTF) in Morgan County. This project will enable smoother interstate commerce by funding a third ICTF facility in the state to better serve customers in central and northern Alabama. She also secured funding for public safety firefighting equipment in Henry County and to support ongoing riverbank stabilization and erosion control efforts in Selma. Other major wins secured by Senator Britt in the FY25 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act include a total of $13 million in critical investments in airports across the state to enhance their infrastructure.
He office also shared that she supported $20 million for the National Scenic Byways program. Alabama’s National Scenic Byways include Alabama’s Coastal Connection, Natchez Trace Parkway, Selma to Montgomery March Byway, and Talladega Scenic Drive. Additionally, the bill allocates $100 million for the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS), which includes the Birmingham Northern Beltline. Alabama has the most uncompleted miles remaining of any state in the system and is expected to receive approximately $30 million out of the total ADHS appropriation.
The FY25 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
