U.S. Senator Katie Britt Announces Senate Judiciary Subcommittee Assignments

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) today announced her subcommittee assignments for the Senate Judiciary Committee in the 119th Congress. Senator Britt, who was appointed to the committee at the start of the session, will serve on four subcommittees, focusing on areas such as border security, crime, intellectual property, and antitrust policy.

Senator Britt will serve on the Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration, a group tasked with addressing issues related to securing the southern border and immigration policy. This subcommittee will play a role in shaping legislation aimed at supporting President Trump’s efforts to bolster border security.

“I am honored to join the Border Security and Immigration and the Crime and Counterterrorism Subcommittees. Both of these subcommittees will play a pivotal role in making America safer. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to build on the success of the Laken Riley Act with additional pieces of legislation to strengthen border security and interior immigration enforcement, including reducing the flow of deadly fentanyl into our country,” Senator Britt said in a statement. “I am committed to fighting for America First policies to secure and defend our homeland while giving our law enforcement officers the tools and resources to combat threats.”

In addition, Senator Britt has been appointed to the Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, which has oversight over federal agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and agencies dealing with anti-terrorism enforcement.

Senator Britt will also join the Subcommittee on Intellectual Property and the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights. These subcommittees will focus on issues of innovation, market access, and intellectual property protections, particularly with regard to China’s practices.

Application

“Strengthening our nation’s IP protections will help usher in a new era of American prosperity, and it will provide an opportunity to counter one of the many unfair, malicious practices the Chinese Communist Party deploys against the United States. Alabama’s innovators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses are at the forefront of innovation and groundbreaking discoveries, and I am committed to ensuring their continued competitiveness as our economy evolves—that requires IP protections and fair market access,” she continued.

Senator Britt, the first-ever Republican female attorney appointed to the Senate Judiciary Committee, also remains on the Senate Appropriations, Banking, and Rules Committees. These subcommittee assignments will be part of her ongoing efforts to influence policies important to her state and the country.
