Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has praised President Donald Trump’s recent executive order aimed at expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF). The order, described by Britt as the most pro-IVF executive action ever taken at the federal level, directs the administration’s domestic policy team to develop recommendations within 90 days to improve both the affordability and accessibility of IVF treatments.

“IVF is fundamentally pro-family, helping aspiring parents across our nation start and grow their families. I couldn’t be happier to see President Trump take this landmark step to expand access to this pathway to parenthood,” said Britt. “I remain grateful for President Trump’s bold leadership on this issue. IVF will be more affordable and accessible for loving American families thanks to President Trump.”

The executive order underscores the importance of family formation, stating that national policies should facilitate access to reproductive services for individuals seeking to have children.

Application

The issue of IVF access gained national attention earlier this year following legal uncertainties in Alabama. In February 2024, after discussions with Senator Britt, Trump urged the state to pass legislation protecting IVF access. Alabama’s Republican-led House and Senate quickly advanced a bill, which was signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey.

Britt has been an advocate for nationwide protections for IVF, co-authoring the IVF Protection Act with Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in May 2023. This legislation seeks to ensure continued IVF availability while safeguarding religious liberty. She also led all Republican senators in issuing a joint statement last year affirming their commitment to maintaining IVF access.

“President Trump is, once again, keeping his promises to the American people,” Britt stated. “I look forward to introducing legislation in the Senate advancing the Trump Administration’s pro-family agenda for the millions of Americans facing infertility who dream of building a family. Republicans will continue to fight for hardworking families and deliver real results.”

The executive order’s recommendations are expected to be released in the coming months, potentially shaping future legislative efforts to enhance IVF access across the country.
