Washington D.C. – Last week, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) joined Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and 14 other Senate Republicans in introducing the Israel Security Assistance Support Act. The legislation aims to ensure the Biden Administration delivers critical munitions to Israel. Co-sponsors of the bill include Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.Dak.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Pete Ricketts (R-Nebr.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.).
In the House of Representatives, Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA-41) introduced companion legislation.
The Israel Security Assistance Support Act includes provisions that would require the Biden administration to complete the delivery of weapons to Israel. Additionally, it proposes canceling the salaries of Department of Defense or Department of State officials who act to withhold these deliveries.
This legislative push follows Senator Britt’s participation in a press conference hosted by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) regarding President Biden’s decision to withhold certain shipments of American weapons to Israel. At the conference, senators announced their introduction of a resolution condemning any action by the Biden Administration to restrict ammunition or weapons for Israel.
“After World War II, we as Americans said, ‘Never Again.’ Today, President Biden’s dithering doctrine of appeasement and legacy of weakness threaten to break that promise. This Administration is turning its back on Israel — and at the worst possible time. As Israel works to secure the release of the hostages — including American citizens — still held by Hamas in Gaza, President Biden has undermined Israel and empowered Hamas. We must stand unequivocally with Israel as she fights to end Hamas’ reign of terror and ensure there is never another October 7,” said Senator Britt.
The resolution introduced at the press conference has widespread support among Senate Republicans, with Senators Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and many others cosponsoring.
This legislative effort underscores the ongoing commitment of these senators to support Israel amid regional security challenges and the broader geopolitical landscape.
