Montgomery, AL – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has joined Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Congressman August Pfluger (R-Texas), and 11 other Republican lawmakers to introduce a bicameral Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution aimed at blocking the Biden Administration’s Natural Gas Tax. This tax was included in the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
Senator Britt expressed her concerns about rising costs for American families, stating, “Over the past four years, the American people have been drowning in high prices from the grocery store to the gas pump. It is past time to unleash American energy dominance and drive down costs for hardworking families.” She emphasized that blocking the Natural Gas Tax is vital for promoting an America-first energy policy.
Senator Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, added, “American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy. The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply.” He reiterated the need to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax to enhance domestic energy production.
The resolution has garnered support from several Republican senators, including Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), and others. Additionally, Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) is supporting the CRA in the House of Representatives.
Earlier this year, Senator Britt co-introduced the Natural Gas Tax Repeal Act with Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), which aims to eliminate the methane emissions fee established by the IRA.
