BIRMINGHAM – Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama honored U.S. Senator Katie Britt this week for her efforts in supporting law enforcement and advancing public safety legislation.
Senator Britt emphasized the importance of her work in both Washington and Alabama, stating that ensuring safety for families remains at the center of her legislative priorities. She highlighted her role in leading the bipartisan Laken Riley Act, the most significant immigration enforcement and border security legislation to be signed into law in nearly three decades. She also pointed to her work in advancing funding for law enforcement agencies across Alabama through the appropriations process.
“The work done by the Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama is truly invaluable, and I’m honored to be recognized by them for my work in the Senate,” Britt said. “Fighting for the safety of Alabamians and advocating for our law enforcement agencies at every level is a true honor and privilege.”
Frank Barefield, Chairman of the Crime Stoppers Board, praised Britt for her leadership and commitment to law and order. He credited her for taking on difficult issues such as violent crime, repeat offenders, and crimes targeting children.
“Her work has not been about what is easy—it has been about what is right,” Barefield said. He pointed to Britt’s leadership on the Laken Riley Act as a key example of her dedication, noting that the law was designed to prevent tragedies caused by violent offenders entering the U.S. illegally.
The Laken Riley Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump earlier this year with bipartisan support, marked the first major immigration enforcement legislation enacted since 1996. Named after a young woman who lost her life to violent crime, the law seeks to strengthen protections against similar acts.
In addition, Senator Britt recently advanced $14.4 million in funding to support law enforcement and other local projects across Alabama. As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, she said she remains focused on ensuring resources are available to keep communities safe.
