WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) voted in favor of a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution aimed at blocking the Biden Administration’s Natural Gas Tax, a measure included in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
Senator Britt co-sponsored the resolution alongside Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Representative August Pfluger (R-Texas), and other Republican lawmakers. The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the resolution, which now moves forward for executive consideration.
Britt has been an advocate for expanding domestic energy production, arguing that the Natural Gas Tax could lead to higher energy costs for consumers, including families, small businesses, farmers, and manufacturers. She has also co-sponsored the Natural Gas Tax Repeal Act, introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), which seeks to eliminate the methane emissions fee established under the IRA.
Britt has voiced her opposition to regulatory policies she believes could increase costs for American consumers and has called for policies that prioritize energy affordability and reliability.
The outcome of the resolution will depend on executive action, as it now awaits the next steps in the legislative process.
