Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Judiciary’s Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights Subcommittee, voted to confirm Gail Slater as Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. The nomination, put forth by former President Donald Trump, was confirmed by the Senate with a bipartisan vote of 78-19.
In a statement following the confirmation, Britt expressed confidence in Slater’s ability to enforce antitrust laws and promote fair competition in the marketplace. “I was proud to vote to confirm Assistant AG Slater today. I am confident she will work diligently to ensure continued market competitiveness as our economy evolves,” Britt stated. She emphasized the importance of supporting Alabama’s small businesses and entrepreneurs, stating that Slater’s experience as an antitrust attorney would be valuable in overseeing competition policies.
Britt recently participated in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Slater’s nomination, during which the nominee outlined her perspective on the role of antitrust enforcement in fostering competition and supporting small businesses.
In addition to her vote for Slater, Britt also supported the confirmation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor. The Senate approved Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination by a vote of 67-32.
Following the confirmation, Britt highlighted her discussions with Chavez-DeRemer on key issues, including workforce development and child care accessibility. “Voting to confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer reaffirms my commitment to putting hardworking Americans first and growing both opportunity and prosperity in every corner of our country,” Britt said. She also noted that Chavez-DeRemer assured her that Alabamians would retain the right to work under her leadership at the Department of Labor.
As a member of the Senate, Britt continues to prioritize policies aimed at economic growth, workforce development, and market competition.
