Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) voted this week to confirm Wells Griffith as Under Secretary of Energy in the U.S. Department of Energy. The Senate approved Griffith’s nomination in a 54-43 vote.
Griffith, a native of Mobile, Alabama, was nominated by former President Donald Trump to serve in the position. As Under Secretary of Energy, Griffith will play a key role in shaping national energy policy and supporting the Department’s broader mission, which includes ensuring America’s energy security, advancing energy technologies, and managing the country’s nuclear infrastructure.
In a statement following the vote, Senator Britt expressed her support for the nomination, emphasizing Griffith’s background and the importance of reliable energy access for Americans. She stated that his leadership will contribute to economic growth and job creation while supporting national energy priorities.
Griffith previously served as a senior energy adviser in the Trump administration and has worked in both domestic and international energy policy roles. His new position places him among the top leadership at the Department of Energy, working under Energy Secretary Wright.
The vote to confirm Griffith fell largely along party lines, with a few crossover votes from members of both parties.
