Senators Britt and Graham Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Prevent Hamas Control of Gaza

U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Lindsey Graham Hamas Cannot Retain Control of Gaza

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have introduced a bipartisan resolution affirming that Hamas should not retain any political or military control of the Gaza Strip. The resolution also urges the Trump administration to utilize economic and diplomatic measures to cut off Hamas’ sources of funding, particularly from Iran.

The initiative comes as the region continues to grapple with the aftermath of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which Hamas carried out. Senator Britt emphasized the importance of eliminating Hamas’ influence to ensure Israel’s security.

“It has been over 500 days since Hamas’ barbaric attack on Israel,” said Britt. “I will continue to stand with my colleagues and call for our nation to use every tool in our toolbox to halt all sources of funding for Iranian-backed terrorists. Our support for Israel’s right to defend herself is unwavering as they work to bring every single hostage home. The threat of Hamas must be ended permanently. Only through strength can we achieve lasting, sustainable peace.”

The resolution reaffirms support for Israel’s sovereignty and its right to self-defense against Hamas, Iran, and other Iranian-backed groups. It further calls on the administration to enforce sanctions against Iran to weaken its financial networks that support militant organizations.

Senator Graham underscored the broader geopolitical significance of removing Hamas from power in Gaza.

Application

“One of the defining moments for the future of the Middle East and the world at large is to state directly and with moral clarity that Hamas – a terrorist organization – will no longer have political or military control of Gaza at the end of this conflict,” Graham said. He cited Hamas’ role in the October 7 attack, its continued detainment of hostages, and its governance over Gaza as reasons for the resolution.

Joining Britt and Graham in introducing the measure are Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), demonstrating bipartisan support for the effort.

Senator Britt has previously advocated for stringent sanctions on Iran, calling for enhanced enforcement actions to dismantle its financial support for groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. She has also questioned U.S. enforcement strategies aimed at disrupting Iran’s financial networks.

The resolution is expected to receive further discussion in the Senate as lawmakers debate policy responses to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
