Alexandria, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the location formally known as TG’s One Stop, located at 8067 AL Highway 144 in Alexandria. Sheriff Matthew Wade said that his office had received numerous complaints about the business and potential for selling synthetic drugs after the ownership changed approximate one month ago. The Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation that led investigators to securing a search warrant for the premises. Investigators proceeded to the business with numerous police vehicles and conducted the raid. Sheriff Wade stated that “A large amount of suspected illegal items were seized and taken into evidence on the scene.” He went on to say that “The items taken into evidence will be sent to the lab for testing and positive identification of the substances.”
Synthetic marijuana is illegal in Alabama and many of the ingredients used to make it are now schedule 1 drugs. Schedule 1 drugs also include Kratom, Heroin, Methamphetamine, and Cocaine. According to the DEA this product is manufactured with no strict recipe and often change from manufacturer to manufacturer leading to different results for the user, including potential death. The number of synthetic marijuana overdoses have steadily increased in the last few years and Sheriff Wade is addressing this through enforcement. “This is drug is so dangerous and our children don’t realize it. I will investigate any business that is believed to be selling this in our community and we will take action,” stated Sheriff Wade.
The Sheriff’s Office has not made any arrests after the search warrant as they want to have a full lab report before bringing charges. When the lab reports are complete, investigators will determine what charges to file, if any, and will address each violation individually.
Sheriff Wade also wants the community to know that if someone provides a tip about sales of synthetic drugs it will be investigated.
