Gamecock Village Shooting Incident.

Jacksonville, AL – On Tuesday night at approximately 11:30 pm Jacksonville Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Nisbet St N.W. in response to a possible gunshot fired call. As the police arrived at Gamecock Village, they proceeded to the rear of the complex and saw a number of people begin to run from the area.

During the initial investigation officers were able to locate some bullet casings near the area of building 10. Police Chief Marcus Wood stated, “It appears that there was a physical altercation between a group of individuals. During the altercation an unknown person fired a weapon but did not hit anyone.” The Chief went on to explain that this appears to be an isolated incident and the residents of the surrounding area are not in immediate danger.

Chief Wood issued the following press release regarding the incident:

“Last night there was a disturbance of a group of individuals that occurred off- campus at Gamecock Village in Jacksonville Police Department’s jurisdiction.  There was a fight that broke out and a shot was allegedly fired.  It was quickly determined that it was an isolated incident.  No weapons were located and no injuries were reported.  One Individual was arrested on the scene on unrelated charges.”

Chief Wood further stated that, “The investigation is still active and ongoing”

One of the residents of Gamecock Village stated, “JPD blocked off the entrance/exit to the complex and wouldn’t let anyone in or out while they were working. There were a lot of cops around building 10 and that seemed to be the hotspot, where they were most focused. I think they were out there until almost 4:00 in the morning.”
