Short Agenda but Long Meeting of Piedmont City Council on Tuesday

Piedmont, AL – The Piedmont City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening with the normal business to be approved, the minutes and bills for payment in the amount of $326,800.14 and two weeks payroll  in the amount of $145, 513.27 for a total of $472,313.41.

The Council also heard a presentation from a representative of AVENU. This is a company that collects taxes, business license and other related income for municipalities and county governments across the State. They now collect for Anniston, Gadsden, and Calhoun County. The representative told the Council you now have delinquent business license and sales taxes due the City but not being collected. The Council tabled the measure until next meeting for more information about specific topics.

In other action, the Council approved two resolutions, Resolution # 2023-5 allowed the City to enter into an agreement with the State to assist the City in providing transportation services to meet the needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities. Resolution #2023-06 is the Municipal Water Pollution Prevention that adopts the Annual report from the Waste Water Treatment facility and says the Council is aware of the report and operations at the facility.

The Park and Recreation department had submitted 3 bids for PPCS Salt Cell Generator and cables for the Aquatic Center . The lowest bid was accepted from Jim Coleman of Anniston in the amount of $8160.00

The Council adopted a rule for City residents to address the Council about issues. In the future, residents can sign in with the Topic to be discussed and will be allowed 5 minutes to present to the Council. The Mayor and Council both stressed they want to hear from the Residents of the City about issues but also must maintain an orderly manner to do that and keep the meeting on track and moving along in a timely fashion.

The next meeting of the Piedmont City Council is May 16 at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers.
