Cleburne County, Weaver score walk-off wins; Lady Tigers go 11 innings to get theirs

HEFLIN – Carlee Hiett’s single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th brought home Makinzie Frames with the winning run in a 4-3 softball victory over Spring Garden Thursday.

The Lady Tigers were down to their last out when they started the winning rally. Winning pitcher Jayci Boozer got it started when she reached on an error and Frames went in to run. She moved to second when Allyssa Hunt reached on another infield error and rode home on Hiett’s game-winning hit.

Hiett went 4-for-6 in the game.

“This team has something special about it,” said Cleburne County coach Christina Ezell, who once played in a 14-inning game as a player. “A chip on their shoulder I can see. We have some unfinished business.”

The game lasted nearly two hours and 30 minutes, featured 95 batters, 20 hits and 306 pitches. Both pitchers – Boozer and Abbey Steward went the distance. Boozer struck out 15 and Steward fanned 13.

It was the second straight one-run game Spring Garden played in as many days that was decided in the last inning. On Wednesday, the Lady Panthers beat Cherokee County 1-0 with a run in the top of the seventh.
