JACKSONVILLE, AL – Jacksonville’s largest outdoor street festival is back, and this year it’s set to deliver more music, food, and community spirit than ever before. Spirit on Mountain Street will take place Thursday, August 21, bringing an evening of family fun and live entertainment to Mountain Street, next to Jacksonville State University’s AmFirst Stadium.
The free event, hosted by the JSU Student Government Association, kicks off at 6 p.m. with Taste of the Town. Local restaurants will serve up signature menu items in exchange for $1 tasting tickets, giving attendees a chance to sample the best flavors the region has to offer. Alongside the food, families can enjoy a Kids Zone, vendor booths, and other activities designed to engage all ages.
At 7:15 p.m., Grammy-nominated country artist Hailey Whitters will take the stage, followed at 8:45 p.m. by Appalachian roots band 49 Winchester. Whitters, widely known for her platinum-selling hit Everything She Ain’t, has toured with country music’s top stars and appeared on national television programs including Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Kelly Clarkson Show.
49 Winchester, celebrated for their blend of country soul and rock energy, has gained international recognition with their 2022 breakout album Fortune Favors the Bold and their 2024 release Leavin’ This Holler. Their music has been praised by outlets such as Rolling Stone and No Depression, drawing comparisons to legends of Americana and roots music.
Now in its 19th year, Spirit on Mountain Street is co-hosted by Jacksonville State University, Aligned Insurance, and the City of Jacksonville. The festival benefits the Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center, helping provide financial support for local families in need.
Admission is free and open to the public, with festivities lasting until 11 p.m.
