Spring Round Up for Calhoun County

Calhoun County, AL – Fulmer gets first win as Weaver’s softball coach. Oxford rolls up 13 hits, 17 runs. Glencoe, Handley victorious. In baseball, Piedmont, Jacksonville, Wellborn, Oxford, Lincoln, Munford and Donoho win. Donoho boys, girls win in soccer. Jacksonville girls roll 7-0, and Weaver girls win in PKs.

WEAVER — Andy Fulmer is a three-time state champion wrestling coach … four, if one includes a duals-format state championship. As of today, he has a win as a head softball coach.

Daughter Kynlee Fulmer pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in five innings, and Weaver downed visiting Cleburne County 12-0.

Kynlee Fulmer also went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI as Weaver improved to 1-3 under its first-year head softball coach.

Andy Fulmer served as an assistant before taking over for Gary Atchley, now Jacksonville’s head coach.

“Hopefully, our first of many wins,” Andy Fulmer said. “Hope this builds some momentum for us.”

Weaver got several big performances at the plate. McKennah Homesley went 2-for-3 with a double, run and three RBIs.

Peyton Marvasty and Anna Shrivinski each had a single and two RBIs. Sydney Bitzer went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, Alana Cooper and Ella Mae Kines had a single and RBI apiece.

OXFORD 17, CLAY-CHALKVILLE 8: Led by Reagan Sanders’ 3-for-3 performance with two runs and three RBIs, Oxford (6-7) pounded out 13 hits while winning in Class 6A, Area 12 play.

Ashlyn Burns tripled and drove in three runs, and Emma Tims-Becerra went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Oxford also got an RBI apiece from Berkley Mooney, M Murphy, Kaelyn Crossley and JaMea Gaston. Crossley and K Kimbrough each hit a double, and Adajiah Wilson went 2-for-5 with a double and four runs.

Crossley pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with two strikeouts.

GLENCOE 8, PLEASANT VALLEY 5: Abigail Bunt went 2-for-4 with a home run, run and two RBIs to lead Glencoe.

Aubrey Maxwell went 3-for-4 with a double, run and two RBIs, and Sadie Waldrop went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

Jordyn Morris had a double and scored a run.

Pleasant Valley’s Lily Henry homered and doubled and had an RBI. Madyson Cromer went 2-for-2, and Alexa Cranmer had an RBI.

HANDLEY 15, CENTRAL-CLAY 5: Kamlyn Holloway went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs to lead the offensive attack for Handley (6-2).

Mariana Whaley went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBis, and Ella Hopper went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs.

Handley aso got a home run and three RBIs from Anna Hill.

Rayna Smith pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and one earned run with four strikeouts.

Central-Clay got two hits and two RBIs apiece from Addison Clark and Suraya Colburrn. Both of Clark’s hits were doubles. Camdyn Pressley had a single and RBI.

Baseball

PIEDMONT 10, WEAVER 0: McClane Mohon hit three doubles and drove in two runs as Piedmont beat Weaver in Class 3A, Area 10 play.

Cole Austin went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Cole Wilson had a double and two RBis.

Kale Austin hit a double and drove in a run, and Trevor Pike had a single and RBI.

Brodie Homesley, Cain Hendon and Pike combined to pitch a two-hitter. Homesley struck out seven batters in three innings of work.

JACKSONVILLE 8, FAITH CHRISTIAN 0: Maguire Mallett and Coleman Guthrie combined to hold Faith to two hits. Mallett pitched six innings, allowing two hits with five strikeouts.

Zay Lemon went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Gavin Peeler was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Jacksonville also got an RBI apiece from Jackson Bonner and Darel Atkinson.

Faith’s Eli Robinson and Brady Whitworth each had a single.

WELLBORN 20, SAKS 7: Brennan Talley, Tanner Ingram, Sean Perez and Aziah Amberson each had three of Wellborn’s 18 hits as the Panthers won in Class 3A, Area 10 play.

Ingram’s day included a double and five RBIs, and Talley had a double and four RBIs. Amberson and Perez each had an RBI, and Amberson scored four runs. Perez scored three.

Will Phillips went 2-for-4 with a double, four runs and two RBIs.

Zachary Pressley had two hits and an RBI, and Ashton Woodard had two hits and a run.

Amberson and Pressley combined to hold Saks to four hits. Amberson struck out nine batters over 5 1/3 innings.

OXFORD 10, OPELIKA 0: Hudson Gilman pitched a two-hitter with two strikeouts over five innings and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs as Oxford improved to 9-4.

Nick Richardson went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI, and Canaan Whitman went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. R.J. Brooks had a double and RBI.

LINCOLN 11, OHATCHEE 1: Bradley Newell and Tucker Steward combined to hold Ohatchee to six hits. Newell struck out four batters in four innings. Newell also hit a two-run home run on the way to four RBIs on the day.

Cole East doubled while going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Steele Calhoun singled with an RBI. Woodruff doubled and scored two runs.

Ohatchee’s Jake Roberson went 2-for-2, and Hunter Brown singled and scored a run.

MUNFORD 13, CENTRAL-CLAY 11: Trailing 10-2 in the fourth inning, Munford (11-2) scored nine runs in the top of the sixth. The rally included Mason Brewer’s two-run single.

Lathan Stephens went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Munford got an RBI apiece from B.J. Anderson, Alex Petty, David Pettus, Jacob King, Gatlin Watts and Braydon Nichols.

DONOHO 7, SAND ROCK 3: Peyton Webb pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, and he homered and doubled while going 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs as Donoho improved to 3-5.

Sam Montgomery went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Brodie Macolley had a single and RBI.

Blake Sewell hit two doubles and scored a run, and Kai Cleckler went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Marcus Lawler doubled and scored a run.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 7, GLENCOE 0: Erin Turley and Anna Kate Wallace scored two goals apiece as top-ranked Donoho stayed undefeated while winning in 1A-3A, Area 6 play.

Donoho also got a goal apiece from Zoe Christopher, Sam Wakefield and Chole Melton.

DONOHO BOYS 3, GLENCOE 2, OT: Sam Johnson’s goal in overtime made the difference, and Bruce Downey scored two goals in regulation.

JACKSONVILLE GIRLS 7, MUNFORD 0: In 4A, Area 5 action, Emerson Weaver had three goals and one assist. Lexi Page and Willa Kate Walker added two goals each, and Sarah Sloughfy added four assists. Emma Easterling anchored the defense, with goalie Kelsie Sigler earning the shutout.

WEAVER GIRLS 3, HOKES BLUFF 2, OT: The game went to sudden-death penalty kicks, and Kyla Hotaling got the winning goal. Annalynna Canchucaja scored Weaver’s penalty kick in the first five.

Erionna Richmond had Weaver’s goal in regulation, and D.J. Gibbs had an assist.

Goalkeeper Lena Johannson kept Weaver in the match with 31 saves.
