Spring roundup

Calhoun County, AL – Patterson, Henegar combine for shutout as Alexandria splits with Tuscaloosa County. Brooks drives in six runs to power Oxford. White Plains ups to 2-0. Munford sweeps Glencoe. Ohatchee tops Jacksonville in softball.

 

Tripp Patterson and Samuel Henegar combined to allow four hits, and Patterson struck out nine batters to help Alexandria beat visiting Tuscaloosa County 3-0 in Saturday’s prep baseball action.

The victory was part of a doubleheader split. Tuscaloosa County won the other game 8-5.

In Alexandria’s victory, Patterson worked the first five innings and Henegar the final two in relief. Patterson had the lone walk between the two, offset by nine strikeouts.

At the plate, Brodie Slaton, Ian Cartwright and Eli Barnes each had a single and RBI. Bray Goode doubled and scored a run, and Evan Snow singled with a run.

In Alexandria’s 8-5 loss, Cartwright went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Nic Thompson, Henegar, Snow and Zach Baskins each had two hits. Henegar and Snow drove in a run apiece, and Barnes had a single and RBI.

Henegar and Thompson each hit a double.

OXFORD 15, HELENA 4: A day after winning his first start of the season, R.J. Brooks drove in six runs to help Oxford improve to 3-0.

Brooks’ day included a two-run home run in the second inning and a three-run double in the third.

Brooks’ other RBI came on a fielder’s choice.

Forrest Heacock and Tide Gann drove in four runs apiece. Heacock went 4-for-4 with two doubles, and Gann was 1-for-3 with a double.

Rocco Maniscalco had a double among his two hits with an RBI.

On the mound, Colton Parten and Gavin Griner allowed two hits apiece over three innings apiece. Neither allowed an earned run, and Parten struck out five batters.

WHITE PLAINS 13, RAGLAND 1: Austin Kilgore struck out four batters over three innings, and Coleman Ray pitched two innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts as White Plains improved to 2-0.

Kilgore also singled and drove in a run.

Ashton Wallace went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Dalton Lukar went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.

Braxxon Borrelli also drove in three runs.

MUNFORD 6-15, GLENCOE 6-0: Munford opened the season with a sweep of Glencoe, winning the first game 6-0 and second 15-6.

B.J. Anderson, Alex Petty and Austin Wynn combined for the shutout. Petty worked the middle four innings in relief, allowing one hit and two walks with six strikeouts.

Mason Brewer singled for Munford’s lone hit and drove in a run. Anderson, Gatlin Watts and Braydon Nichols each drove in a run.

In the second game, Nichols, David Pettus and Sawyer Stephens drove in two runs apiece. Pettus and Stephens each had a double.

Anderson, Brewer, Petty, Wynn, Brody Wilson and Jacob King had an RBI apiece.

COOSA CHRISTIAN 6, JACKSONVILLE 2: Gavin Peeler singled and drove in both of Jacksonville runs as the Golden Eagles fell to 0-3 on the season.

Matthew Parker and Matthew Salmon worked a combined five innings of effective relief. Parker went 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Salmon worked 1 2/3 perfect innings.

Softball

OHATCHEE 11, JACKSONVILLE 7: Breanna Martin went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs to lead Ohatchee.

The Indians also got a single and RBI apiece from MacKenzie Luna and Reese Steward. Alanah Fitch and Skylar Haynes each drove in a run.

Jacksonville’s Raybon Pridgen went 2-for-2 with a double. Alexis Phillips, Libby Strain, Addison Tidwell, Jehenna Engram, Avery Allen and Sadee Pate-Whitfield drove in a run apiece.
