Calhoun County, AL – Alexandria softball wins two of three in Gulf Shores, and PV goes 0-3. Ohatchee, Jacksonville tie. PV baseball wins two in Spring Experience, and White Plains splits. Oxford tops Hueytown.Piedmont beats West Blocton. Munford downs Central-Clay.

 

GULF SHORES — Alexandria went 2-1 in the Gulf Coast Classic on Monday, beating Columbia (Tenn.) Central 8-1 and Oakland (Tenn.) 11-6 before losing to Enterprise 3-0.

The Valley Cubs are 14-6-1.

Against Columbia Central, Pressley Slaton allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters in three innings. She also homered while going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Christian Hess homered and had two RBIs, and Brenlee Sparks tripled, scored a run and had two RBIs.

Clancy Bright singled and drove in a run.

Against Oakland, Sparks went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, and Bright went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Charlee Parrs went 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs, and Hess was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Khloe England and Reece Carr combined to allow four hits and three earned runs. England had a strikeout.

Against Enterprise, Bright and Briley Bright each had two of Alexandria’s six hits, and Pressley pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts.

PLEASANT VALLEY 0-3: Also playing in Gulf Shores, Pleasant Valley (6-9) lost to McNairy (Tenn.) Central 3-0, Houston Academy 13-1 and Spanish Fort 8-1.

Ellie Patterson, Lily Henry and Haylie Lee combined to hold McNairy Central to six hits and two earned runs. Lee struck out three batters, Patterson two and Henry one.

Gracee Ward had the Raiders’ lone hit, a single, against Houston Academy, and Madyson Cromer had a single and RBI against Spanish Fort.

OHATCHEE 2, JACKSONVILLE 2: Playing at Jacksonville State, Gracelynn Reed had a single and two RBIs, and Breanna Martin went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run to lead Ohatchee (15-3-1).

Makayla Brackett pitched five innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs with a walk and a strikeout.

Jacksonville’s Teah Evans allowed four hits and earned runs in five innings. She had a strikeout and three walks.

Jaylen Huntley had the Golden Eagles’ lone RBI.

Jacksonville (4-6-2) also tied Ider 4-4.

Baseball

PLEASANT VALLEY SWEEPS: Also playing in the Spring Experience at Choccolocco Park, the Raiders (12-7) beat Wellborn 5-4 and Weaver 7-1.

Samuel Duncan’s sacrifice fly scored John Garrett Bryant in the bottom of the sixth inning for the go-ahead run against Wellborn. Bryant reached on a single, reached second on an error and got to third base on Holt Bentley’s grounder.

Bentley led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and Duncan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Caleb Shew and Noah Johnson each had a single and RBI.

Duncan pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts in seven innings.

Wellborn’s Zachary Pressley had a single and RBI, and Tanner Ingram had an RBI.

Against Weaver, Wesley Wheeler allowed three hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for the win.

Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Bentley had a double and three RBIs. Logan Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs an an RBI, and Bryant had a triple and scored two runs.

Weaver (2-8) got a single apiece from Tucker Michaels, Cael Fulmer, Haiden Hise and Connor Hyatt.

OXFORD 3, HUEYTOWN 1: Bryson Bradford allowed five hits and one earned run with three strikeouts over seven innings, and Oxford improved to 14-7 during Spring Experience action at Choccolocco Park.

Canaan Whitman went 2-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Rocco Maniscalco had a single and RBI. Forrest Heacock had a double.

WHITE PLAINS SPLITS: Playing in the Spring Experience at Choccolocco Park, White Plains (9-11) beat Wellborn 13-3 and lost to Vincent 9-1.

Cooper Tinney went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and five RBIs against Wellborn, and Ashton Wallace drove in two runs and scored two. Paul Laube went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI, Braxton Curles went 2-for-2 with a double with a run and an RBI.

Dalton Luker had a single and an RBI.

Wallace pitched four innings for the win, allowing three hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.

Wellborn’s Brennan Talley went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Zachary Pressley had a single and RBI. The Panthers are 5-10.

Luker had a triple and Laube a double against Vincent, and Tinney had the Wildcats’ lone RBI.

PIEDMONT 6, WEST BLOCTON 1: Also playing in the Spring Experience at Choccolocco Park, Piedmont got a single and two RBIs from Cole Wilson while improving to (11-6).

McClane Mohon doubled, scored two runs and had an RBI, and Jonah Pike scored a run and had an RBI.

Kale Austin got the win, allowing two hits, no earned runs and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings. Cain Hendon pitched two innings of scoreless relief, and Trevor Pike pitched one.

MUNFORD 13, CENTRAL-CLAY 6: Jacob King went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBIs, and Mason Brewer went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs as Munford improved to (13-5).

Lathan Stephens and David Pettus each had two singles and an RBI. B.J. Anderson and Braydon Nichols each had a single and RBI.

Nichols pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts.

Central-Clay’s Tyler Boyd had a double and two RBIs, and the Vols (6-11) got a single and RBI apiece from Aden Young, Mason Smith and Kaiden Glenn. Deshaun Gibbons went 2-for-4 with a run.
