Spring roundup

Calhoun County, AL – Oxford softball, Jacksonville baseball gets first wins of the season. Ohatchee softball improves to 5-1. Alexandria baseball downs Etowah.

 

Bear and Sons

Early season struggles for Oxford’s softball team broke like a fever Monday.

Adajiah Wilson homered, tripled and drove in four runs, and the Yellow Jackets beat visiting Lincoln 13-6.

Wilson also scored two runs.

The Yellow Jackets also got three RBIs apiece from Berkley Mooney and Chloe Hulsey. Mooney went 2-for-4, and Hulsey went 1-for-4 with two runs.

Jordyn Alexander had a triple and RBI, and Ashlyn Burns had a double among her two hits and scored two runs.

Kaelyn Crossley singled with an RBI.

In the circle, Mooney came on in relief and struck out 10 batters in 4 1/3 innings. She and Crossley, the starter, each allowed one earned run.

Oxford (1-5) will play a Class 6A, Area 12 game at Gadsden City on Tuesday.

OHATCHEE 7, ASHVILLE 6: Breanna Martin drove in two runs, and Ohatchee scored a victory on the road.

The Indians also got an RBI apiece from Ellie Carden and Alanah Fitch. Carden went 2-for-3 and scored two runs,

Jordyn Faulker got the win in relief, working the final 2 1/3 innings.

Ohatchee scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-4 lead then stopped an Ashville rally one run short in the seventh.

Baseball

ALEXANDRIA 6, ETOWAH 3: Aiden Brunner had a double among his two hits and drove in two runs as Alexandria improved to 2-1.

Bray Goode doubled and drove home a run. Nic Thompson and Eli Barnes each had an RBI.

Alexandria took the lead with a five-run second inning and added a run in the seventh.

Brayden Thacker worked the first five innings for the win, He allowed four hits, two earned runs and one walk with five strikeouts.

Zach Baskins pitched the final two innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with no walks and one strikeout.

JACKSONVILLE 12, GADSDEN CITY 0: Ryan Mitchell and Matthew Parker combined for a four-hit shutout, and Jacksonville got its first win of the season to improve to 1-3.

Mitchell allowed four hits and no walks with six strikeouts while pitching the first five innings. Parker worked two perfect innings of relief.

At the plate, Kingston Peeler and Coleman Guthrie drove in three runs apiece. Peeler went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored a run, and Guthrie was 1-for-3 with a run.

Zachariah Lemon went 2-for-2 with a triple, four runs and an RBI.

Easton Lackey and Jackson Bonner drove in a run apiece.

GUNTERSVILLE 1, PIEDMONT 0: Brodie Homesley and Cole Austin combined to pitch a three-hitter for Piedmont.

Homesley pitched the first four innings, allowing three hits and one earned run with three strikeouts. Austin pitched two scoreless innings or relief.

Austin also had two of Piedmont’s four hits, including a double.

MUNFORD SPLITS: Munford beat Ragland 9-8 then lost to Moody 6-0.

Against Ragland, David Pettus went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Mason Brewer went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

The Lions also got an RBI apiece from B.J. Anderson, Jacob King and Andrew Denson each drove in a run.

Pettus got the win in relief, working the final 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three batters.
