State Rep. Barbara Boyd Hospitalized After Serious Car Accident

Calhoun County, AL – Longtime state Representative Barbara Boyd, D-Anniston, remains hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident on May 9, officials reported on Wednesday.

“She’s improving and resting,” said Rep. Randy Wood, R-Anniston, regarding his colleague from Calhoun County. He did not provide additional details, honoring the Boyd family’s request for privacy.

The accident occurred Thursday night as Boyd was returning home from the Legislature’s final day of the 2024 session.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) released that it is is currently investigating the incident in a statement released Wednesday night, as first reported by the Alabama Daily News .

According to ALEA, the two-vehicle collision happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Alabama 21 near the 246-mile marker, approximately four miles south of Oxford in Talladega County.

“Skyler C. Mosley, 39, of Oxford, was injured when the 2018 Jeep Renegade he was driving was struck by the 2019 Kia Soul driven by Georgia T. Christian, 75, of Talladega,” the statement detailed. “Mosley was taken to Regional Medical Center in Anniston for treatment. Both Christian and Barbara B. Boyd, 87, of Anniston, a passenger in the Kia, were injured and transported to the same hospital for treatment.” Boyd has undergone multiple surgeries since the accident.

With a doctorate in education, Boyd had a distinguished career as an educator, including teaching at Jacksonville State University, before being elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1994. She is among the longest-serving members of the House.
