Oxford, AL – A student brought a firearm onto the Oxford High School campus Tuesday, Sept. 15, according to a joint statement from the Oxford Police Department and Oxford City Schools.
According to the statement, established school safety reporting procedures were followed after the firearm was discovered, and Oxford Police responded immediately.
Officials said the situation was handled promptly and that there are no credible threats to the school at this time.
Authorities did not release additional details regarding how the firearm was discovered, the circumstances surrounding the student bringing it to campus or whether criminal charges are expected.
Oxford City Schools said the matter will be addressed in accordance with the school system’s established disciplinary procedures.
“The safety of our students and school staff is our top priority,” the joint statement said. Officials also thanked school faculty and administrators for their quick response and continued efforts to maintain campus safety.
