On August 16 the Jacksonville Police forwarded some photographs of an unidentified person they suspected to be committing the fraud. CrimeStoppers released the photo and information into their large area of operations. Within 24 hours the suspect was identified as Faizon Omere Davis and confirmed by the victims that Davis was the person they have interacted with. Investigators secured criminal warrants and again contacted CrimeStoppers with the additional information. Within 48 hours the suspect contacted investigators regarding the CrimeStoppers bulletin to ask why they were looking for him. Davis agreed to turn himself into the investigators and was taken into custody at the Jacksonville Public Safety Building. Davis was charged with Theft of Property 4th degree and Theft of Property 3rd degree by Deception. Davis was later released after posting $6,000 in bonds.

This was the first time that the Jacksonville Police Department submitted a tip request through CrimeStoppers. Chief Marcus Wood said that many times a person will “come to Jacksonville and commit crimes and then leave. Many of these people are not even within Calhoun County so it makes it more difficult to identify them. With CrimeStoppers they have a large audience throughout Alabama to get the information out to. In this case the suspect was able to be identified although he did not reside in Calhoun County.” Chief Wood said that the department will be utilizing CrimeStoppers more often and therefor close more cases with an arrest.

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is a non-profit organization that works with law enforcement to help develop leads and information for agencies across Alabama. When a person wants to help but remain completely anonymous they can call CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867) or 1-833-AL1-STOP or download their P3-tips app. CrimeStoppers will supply the caller with a number and at will not ask for the person’s name. Chief Wood also stated that if there are residents or business owners in Jacksonville that would like to anonymously report drug activity or other criminal violations to use this valuable tool. If information leads to an arrest it results in a reward for the original caller.
