Updated Temporary Railroad Crossing Closures in Oxford

Oxford Closures

City of Oxford Spokeswoman, Lorie Denton, has shared information on temporary road closures.

Update (1/27/22):  ALL PREVIOUSLY CLOSED RAILROAD CROSSINGS ARE NOW OPEN TO REGULAR TRAFFIC.

The Coleman Road railroad crossing will be closed beginning in the morning (1/27/2022) for the same repairs.

At 7:30PM 1/26/2022 Norfolk Southern confirmed they have completed phase one of their repair at the Moore Street, Pace Street, and Hillyer Robinson Parkway railroad crossings. They also confirmed the crossing at Coleman Road will be closed beginning, January 27

In the coming weeks Norfolk Southern will return for phase 2 of the repair project. Please ask the public to check the City of Oxford Facebook and Twitter pages for updated information.

Please consider including this statement in your on-air coverage and digital reporting, “We do not have an exact time that the Coleman Road crossing will close on Thursday morning, but we

are recommending commuters to possibly set a reminder on their phone now if they travel that route to work or school to help make your morning go smoother.”-Lorie Denton, spokeswoman

Update: Beginning today (Wednesday, January 26), Norfolk Southern will tear out the existing crossings, replace railroad ties with new ones, and service the following tracks in Oxford:

  • MOORE STREET
  • PACE STREET
  • HILLYER ROBINSON PARKWAY

***The Coleman Road crossing will remain open until the work on either Moore Street, Pace Street, or Hillyer Robinson Parkway is complete. This will allow traffic to have an access point. Once the crossing work at either Moore Street, Pace Street, or Hillyer Robinson Parkway is complete, expect the Coleman Road crossing to close temporarily for service.

Norfolk Southern has expressed the work typically takes one day but can vary based on many circumstances. Please make plans to use an alternate route for one to two days.

We are in direct communication with the crew on-site servicing the tracks and will provide updates as we receive them.
