Calhoun County, AL – Calhoun County Commissioner Terry Howell spoke with the Calhoun Journal this week as the May 19, 2026 primary election approaches, reflecting on his first term in office and discussing accomplishments he believes have been achieved during his time serving District 4.
Howell stated that his first term began on Nov. 16, 2022, and described the experience as “a great ride.” He said he has enjoyed helping constituents from all backgrounds and believes people should be treated equally regardless of “color, background, labor status, or any other status.”
Howell stated that there is “nothing special” about himself as an individual but said he believes his strength comes from bringing people together to accomplish goals. He said that over the last three years, people have told him he has “the gift to make things happen.”
According to Howell, the success he attributes to his first term is not due to “magic,” but instead comes from “long hours and hard work” along with placing the right people in the right positions to help projects succeed.
Howell stated that he was reviewing what he described as a 26-item list of accomplishments from his first term while speaking with the Calhoun Journal. He said the successes were the result of teamwork rather than individual efforts.
Among the areas Howell referenced were road and bridge projects, agricultural support, school support, water projects, polling location changes, sheriff’s office deputy pay increases, halfway house regulations, EMS support, and animal welfare initiatives.
Howell also announced a series of upcoming community meetings where he said he plans to discuss completed projects and future priorities for District 4 and Calhoun County.
The meetings are scheduled as follows:
- May 11 — Saks Community Center
- May 12 — Alexandria Community Center
- May 14 — Weaver Community Center
- May 15 — AP Hollingsworth Community Center
Howell stated that all meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
He also stated that he plans to share what he described as “information that is critical to your life” during the meetings, adding that the topic is something that “wakes me up at night unable to go back to sleep.”
