Jacksonville, AL – On July 28th the JSU Department of Art and Design and the Jacksonville Arts Council (JAC) hosted the 2nd Annual Community Art Show. The show was a great success and the gallery was filled with viewers. Morgan Worsham, Gallery Coordinator, for JSU spoke to the Calhoun Journal and shared that, “This was our 2nd Calhoun County Community Art Show, the first being in 2019. Due to the pandemic, we had to put our annual plans for the event on hold, but following last night’s success we are hoping to have this be a recurring event each summer! We had over 65 entries this year ranging from painting to glass works. JSU’s Associate professor of Printmaking, Sarah Ellis, and I juried the entries. We take a juried approach due to limited space in the gallery. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and we are so thankful for the creativity and support of Calhoun County.”
Nancy Gillespie, JAC Board President stated, “We appreciate all the participants that entered and came out for the event.” Jacksonville Councilwoman Sherry Laster also spoke to the Calhoun Journal and shared, “I loved the collaboration between the JAC and JSU. What an opportunity to display the different artist styles that are creative and talented, and so very impressive. We are so fortunate to have the university to share the art exhibits and to bring the community together to create new connections with the university. It is overall a fantastic way to promote the arts in the community.”
