JACKSONVILLE, AL — The Quality Shoppe, Jacksonville’s longest continuously operating business, is celebrating 90 years of providing bridal and formal wear to generations of families across northeast Alabama.
To commemorate the milestone, the community is invited to a 90th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the shop’s downtown location, 101 Ladiga St. SE. The event will include a raffle featuring nine $90 gift certificates toward a bridal or prom purchase or a tuxedo or suit rental or purchase (exclusions apply). Guests will also enjoy Mad Hatter cupcakes and a meet-and-greet with McKenzie Fuller, Miss JSU.
Founded in 1935 by Minnie and Rupert Weaver, The Quality Shoppe began as a general mercantile on the west side of Jacksonville’s Public Square. Over the decades, the business evolved into a women’s and children’s boutique offering fine china, crystal, and gifts.
In 1979, ownership transitioned to Katie and Maurice Johnson, who guided the shop into becoming a leading bridal and formal wear destination in the region. The Johnsons’ daughter, Rena Comisac, assumed operations in 2008, working alongside her husband, Marc. In 2012, The Quality Shoppe expanded and relocated to its current spot on the south side of the Square, where it continues to offer bridal, prom, pageant, homecoming, and special occasion gowns, along with tuxedo and suit sales and rentals.
“We are grateful to our clients for trusting The Quality Shoppe with some of the most memorable events in their lives,” Comisac said. “We look forward to celebrating our 90th anniversary with our community and to continuing to serve our community for years to come.”
