Anniston, AL – In the heart of Anniston, Alabama, lies a beacon of hope and assistance for those in need. The Right Place, founded in 2012, stands as a pillar of support for homeless and low-income individuals and families in Calhoun County. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, their mission is clear: to assist those in securing safe, decent, and affordable shelter. Their efforts go beyond merely providing housing; they strive to uplift and empower individuals through education, prevention, and support.

Led by agency director Lori Floyd, The Right Place proudly offers “Mental Health First Aid” training to individuals and organizations throughout the community. Whether you’re a first responder, healthcare provider, educator, social worker, or community volunteer, this training equips you with valuable skills to assist those experiencing mental health problems or crises. In a society where mental health awareness is increasingly crucial, such training can make a significant difference in providing timely support and de-escalating challenging situations.

The commitment to prevention doesn’t stop there. The Right Place actively engages with businesses to provide preventive programs, ensuring individuals on the verge of homelessness receive the support they need to remain in their homes. By offering services to employees, they address potential issues before they escalate, fostering stability and resilience within the community.

Central to their mission is providing housing solutions that prioritize dignity and stability. Through programs like Rapid Re-Housing and Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA), they offer temporary financial support to expedite transitions into permanent housing or prevent evictions. Hillside Cottages, a tiny home community, embodies their dedication to long-term solutions, offering permanent supportive housing to low-income individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. These initiatives not only provide shelter but also cultivate a sense of belonging and security.

The Right Place recognizes the importance of community engagement and support. While monetary donations are vital, they also accept donations of snacks and essential items. Due to limited storage space, they encourage donations of items that can be immediately used. The needs vary with the seasons, so reaching out to inquire about current needs is always appreciated.

Funding for their vital programs comes from a variety of sources, including grants and fundraising events like the annual “A Night in New Orleans” dinner. This event, held each August, brings together supporters and donors to celebrate the community’s resilience and generosity.

In collaboration with board chair Bridgette Magouirk and a dedicated team, Lori Floyd and The Right Place continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of those most vulnerable in Anniston and beyond. Their holistic approach, encompassing housing, education, and prevention, reflects a deep commitment to creating a brighter, more equitable future for all.
