Valley Cubs throttle Moody, set up monumental matchup with undefeated Leeds for region championship

MOODY – Alexandria stayed on track for a region championship showdown next week by cruising past Moody 47-7 Friday night.

The victory sets up a monumental matchup with Leeds for the Class 5A Region 6 title.

Both teams are undefeated and should remain 3 and 4 in the state when they meet Friday in Lou Scales Stadium.

The fourth-ranked Valley Cubs are 8-0, No. 3 Leeds 9-0. Both are 6-0 in region play.

Alexandria has outscored its eight opponents 359-84, while Leeds has outscored its nine foes 299-92. The Valley Cubs are the last team to beat the Green Wave in a regular-season game.

But to keep all that going, the Valley Cubs had to get past Moody first.

Antonio Ross rushed for 116 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Cubs’ offense. He scored on runs 5 and 11 yards and caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Austin West.

Javais McGhee rushed for one touchdown, caught a pass for another and threw for a third.

The Alexandria defense held Moody to 58 yards rushing and 171 yards total. It also scored a safety in the third quarter when Jake Upton recorded one of the Cubs’ 10 sacks.
