On a cool misty morning in Oxford over 125 people prepared to start their Monster Dash 5k Run. Some of the runners were dressed in their Halloween costumes and others wore traditional running attire, but everyone was dedicated to completing the course. At 8:00 am the starting gun was fired and the runners began their 3.11 mile course.

This course is sanctioned by both the USATF (United States Track and Field) and the Anniston Runners Club so runners can apply completing the course to their status within the organizations, if they are members. The runners were made up of people with ages ranging from 10 up to 78 with everyone completing the full course. The overall winner of the race was Landon Delozier, 27, with an official time of 17:07.2.

This 7th annual event was coordinated by Erin Murphy who is the Operating Room Manager for the Surgery Center. Erin stated that she has worked at the facility for the past 16 years and loves how important it is for them to give back to the community whenever they can. We also spoke with Kala Mercer who is the G.I. Pain Management Coordinator for the surgery center. Kala stated that she is proud to work for such a great facility and how much they “love giving back to the community”. Kala went on to say that this years Monster Dash was to raise money for the American Cancer Society and past events have raised between five and six thousand dollars.
