Tocqueville Lecture Series - 1020 - Disinformation & the Threat to Democracy

Jacksonville, AL – Dr. Brandon Stewart (Troy University) will present, “Disinformation and the Threat to Democracy” on Thursday, October 20. Disinformation from hostile foreign countries such as Russia poses a serious threat to American democracy. In this talk, they will discuss the goals of Russian disinformation operations in U.S. presidential elections, specific examples of disinformation from the 2016 and 2020 elections, and ways to combat disinformation.

Dr. Brandon Stewart: Assistant Professor of Political Science @Troy University – Dr. Brandon Stewart is an assistant professor in the political science department at Troy University. His research and teaching interests include European politics, African politics, ethnic conflict, and political violence. He is the recent co-editor of The Challenge to NATO: Global Security and the Atlantic Alliance (Nebraska Press).
