County basketball tournament to run Friday to Friday with all games at Jacksonville State

WEAVER – The No. 1 seeds in this year’s Calhoun County Basketball Tournament won’t be hitting the floor for the first time until the Wednesday of the tournament, but they will have to win three games in three days to claim the county’s most prestigious crown.

This year’s tournament, scheduled for Jan. 14-21, will run Friday to Friday with boys and girls playing every day and all games being played at Jacksonville State.

Last year, the tournament stretched from Saturday to Saturday due to the availability of the facility with the first-round games played at Saks before moving to JSU and there were no boys games played on tournament Thursday.

In this year’s bracket there are four games on the opening Friday, six on Saturday and no more than four on any day the rest of the week. In the past, MLK Day Monday was the heaviest day.

“Having all the games at JSU makes things a little easier,” said host principal Andy Keith of Weaver.

The county principals will meet to finalize the bracket and other tournament details Wednesday. The seeding meeting is Jan. 5.[**read more]
