Anniston, AL – A devastating two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, January 26, claiming the life of 19-year-old Tanysia J. Middlebrooks from Thomaston, Georgia. The incident unfolded on U.S. 431 near West Lenlock Lane, approximately four miles north of Anniston in Calhoun County.
According to reports from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division, the fatal crash transpired when a 2016 Nissan Altima, driven by an as-of-yet unidentified individual, was struck by a 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as David J. Zackery, 57, of Anniston.
Tragically, the collision resulted in Tanysia J. Middlebrooks being struck by the Nissan after it was impacted by the Kenworth tractor-trailer. Middlebrooks, who was on foot at the time of the incident, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It has been reported that the Nissan, which was unoccupied during the crash, had been involved in a previous collision. The circumstances surrounding the initial crash involving the Nissan remain under investigation.
Troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are diligently working to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the tragic incident.
