Tragic Fatality in Piedmont: Two-Vehicle Collision Claims Life on Christmas Day

Piedmont, AL – In a devastating incident, the Piedmont Police Department, Fire, and Rescue swiftly responded to a fatal vehicular accident at the intersection of AL Hwy 21 and Jug Hollow Rd today at 1:50 pm. The collision involved two vehicles, a 2014 Nissan Murano and a 2022 Mercedes GLC 300, both of which collided head-on.

The driver of the 2014 Nissan Murano was identified as Claude William Heard, a 78-year-old resident of Piedmont. Tragically, Mr. Heard was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Piedmont Rescue Squad and emergency personnel worked diligently to manage the situation and provide immediate assistance.

Occupants of the 2022 Mercedes GLC 300 sustained injuries in the collision and were promptly transported by the Piedmont Rescue Squad for necessary medical treatment. The severity of their injuries is currently undisclosed.

The Piedmont Police Department, in collaboration with the ALEA State Troopers, is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. As of now, no further details have been released regarding the cause of the collision.

The community is urged to be patient as law enforcement officials work to gather information and determine the events leading up to the tragic incident. The Piedmont Police Department has assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Per Piedmont Chief Nathan Johnson he expressed their condolences to the victim of the fatality and to the Heard family.  Also we wish the injured victims a quick and speedy recovery.
