Tragic Pedestrian Fatality in Heflin: Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Life

Traffic Fatality -- Cleburne County

Heflin, AL – In a incident that occurred on Friday, December 29, tragedy struck as a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian unfolded at around 8:20 p.m., claiming the life of a Heflin resident. The victim, identified as 49-year-old Jimmy L. Mullally, met a fatal end when he was struck by a 2012 Toyota Tacoma driven by 59-year-old Wallace G. Nichols, also a resident of Heflin.

The incident took place on Cleburne County 19 near Cleburne County 42, approximately five miles southeast of Heflin, within Cleburne County. Reports suggest that Mullally, who was lying in the roadway at the time of the collision, sustained fatal injuries upon impact. Tragically, despite prompt emergency response, Mullally was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Details surrounding the circumstances leading to Mullally lying in the roadway and the events leading up to the collision remain unclear. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division has taken charge of the investigation, with troopers working diligently to piece together the sequence of events.

At this time, authorities have not released additional information about the crash, and it is anticipated that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the factors contributing to this unfortunate incident.
