Calhoun County, AL – A devastating two-vehicle accident occurred on Friday, September 15, 2023, at approximately 2:47 p.m., leaving two lives tragically lost and a community in mourning. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the incident unfolded on Mountain View Road, situated approximately ten miles north of Jacksonville in Calhoun County.
The crash involved a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Roger A. Measles, a 40-year-old resident of Jacksonville, and a 2021 Dodge Ram, driven by Jonah Shaw, a 32-year-old from Anniston, who was towing a trailer at the time of the collision.
The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in critical injuries to Roger A. Measles and the tragic loss of a precious life. Jessica R. Slater, a 34-year-old passenger on the motorcycle and also a resident of Jacksonville, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, Roger A. Measles was rushed to Gadsden Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care and was later pronounced deceased.
The entire community has been deeply affected by this heartbreaking incident. Friends and family of both victims are left to grapple with an overwhelming sense of loss, and the community has come together to offer support and condolences during this challenging time.
As the investigation into the accident continues, Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the tragic collision.
